Delaware Cops Sweep Area For DrugsPolice in Delaware are telling suspected criminals they can run but they can't hide during a huge crime sweep Thursday night.
Lawmen were fanning out across New Castle County, Delaware looking for guns, prostitution and a variety of crimes.
Delaware Police told NBC 10 that the move was triggered by a recent increase in robberies and a recent murder at a nearby hotel.
Along the way, Delaware police made a substantial drug bust.
Delaware police uncovered what was a bonanza of narcotics inside a hidden compartment inside a car.
"It goes for roughly $20 a packet," an officer told NBC 10 who had pointed out a substance he believed to be heroin. "We're talking thousands of dollars."
Delaware officers were surprised that the suspect had also hidden a handgun in the compartment.
The arrests came from Operation Clean Sweep, which used 50 officers to round up loiterers and prostitutes and anyone else that couldn't explain why they're hanging around local motels.
In one bust, Delaware officers found a pound of marijuana as well as heroin worth $15,000.
