Warrants sweep nets 20 people

Police combine forces in Smyrna to pick up fugitives

Law enforcement officers from Smyrna, the Delaware Department of Correction, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies have arrested 20 people during a community-wide warrants sweep.

Smyrna, Delaware police spokesman Sgt. Norman Wood said that 14 of those arrested Tuesday were picked up as fugitives who had failed to appear in court on previous charges. He did not know what they had originally been charged with, however.

Among those arrested were:

• Paul M. Bailey 25, of Smyrna, charged with being a local fugitive and resisting arrest. He was released on $500 secured bail.

• Jeffrey K. Still 25, of Smyrna, arrested on an active warrant for reckless endangering and being a local fugitive. He was released on a $400 secured bail.

• Joseph Wilson III, 21, of Smyrna, charged with being a fugitive and resisting arrest. He was sent to Delaware Correctional Center near Smyrna n lieu of $750 secured bail.

• David Ayotte 48, of Smyrna, charged with being a fugitive and resisting arrest. He was sent to Delaware Correctional Center in lieu of $5,200 cash bail.

• Marshall T. Conaway 38, of Smyrna, charged with being a fugitive and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was released on $150 unsecured bail.

• Darnell L. Gardley 25, of Smyrna, arrested for a probation violation. He was sent to Delaware Correctional Center in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
